The CCGS Terry Fox is a Canadian Coast Guard ship built in 1983 in Victoria, British Columbia. Acquired by the Canadian Coast Guard in 1992 and classed as a "Heavy Gulf Icebreaker" she is stationed at Canadian Coast Guard Base Dartmouth in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The Terry Fox has been commissioned to assist in the deployment of underwater array sensors.
Terry Fox (1958-1981) was a young athlete who developed bone cancer, losing a leg; yet he undertook to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.. He developed lung cancer and died before completing the run. Terry Fox runs are now held annually.
